#1 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio

The Stelvio is a luxury compact SUV that joins the fledgling Alfa Romeo lineup for 2018. Like many other models in this class, the Stelvio seeks to distinguish itself by offering strong performance. As of this writing, few professional automotive critics have driven the Stelvio or the high-performance Stelvio Quadrifoglio, but early reviews suggest that the vehicle’s acceleration and handling live up to the hype.

Distinctive exterior and interior styling also help this compact crossover stand out from the crowd. The Stelvio will be available soon, starting at $41,995.

#2 2018 Audi Q5

The completely redesigned Audi Q5 is an early favorite among next year’s group of luxury compact SUVs. Already a solid vehicle, the 2018 Q5 adds a better base engine to the lineup along with some new and updated features. There are more active safety options and an easier-to-use infotainment system to enhance the high-quality cabin design and finish. The Q5 also has great handling, complemented by standard all-wheel drive. The Audi Q5 has already arrived on dealer lots at a starting price of $41,500.

#3 2018 BMW X3

The arrival of yet another redesigned luxury compact SUV means it’s going to be a competitive year. The outgoing BMW X3 is one of the older models in this class, but it will enter a new third generation for 2018. BMW has done away with the diesel engine option, but its remaining four- and six-cylinder powertrains are good choices. For 2018, BMW has made its all-wheel-drive system standard equipment. The BMW X3 goes on sale in November. Pricing has not yet been announced, though it is expected to be more than the 2017 X3’s base price of $40,050.

#4 2018 Buick Enclave

With the fully redesigned Enclave, Buick continues to develop its niche selling near-luxury vehicles at more affordable prices. The Enclave is a 3-row midsize SUV that features a number of improvements over the previous generation. It’s bigger than the 2017 model, offering room for seven and excellent cargo capacity, yet it’s also lighter for better efficiency and performance. It’s easier to drive, thanks to a reduced turning radius. Interior technology gets some much-needed upgrades, too. The Enclave goes on sale this fall and has a base price of $39,995.

#5 2018 Hyundai Kona

The subcompact crossover class squeezes in more entries every year, but Hyundai’s been notably absent from the battle – until now. The all-new Kona is designed to be a value leader in the segment. It will arrive for the 2018 model year with polarizing styling, a spacious interior, and a driver-focused cockpit. Power comes from a base four-cylinder or an optional turbocharged four-cylinder. Hyundai says the Kona will be available in early 2018, and pricing will be competitive with other subcompact SUVs.

#6 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar

All Land Rover SUVs are extremely capable off-roaders. Yet, it’s no secret that many customers buy them not for their performance, but for the status conferred by their styling and luxury features. Enter the all-new 2018 Range Rover Velar, a luxury midsize SUV that’s nearly as capable as the brand’s other models, but is designed to appeal to buyers who have no intention of going off-road. Land Rover dealerships will get the Velar in August, and the base model will start at $50,895.
